Finance In The Business (for Non-Finance Managers)

Trainer(s): Rob van Velden
Duration: 1-2 days

A one day workshop for non-Finance senior managers, enabling improved dialogue with the Finance Leadership team and Management in your organisation on key business finance topics, addressing:

1. Financial Statements (Balance Sheet, Profit and Loss Account and the Cash Flow statement).

2. Project profitability analysis, project profitability enhancement and project funding.

3. Value Based Management and Cost Optimisation.

The workshop on each topic consists of 3 blocs:

1. Introduction into the topic.

2. A practical business case.

3. Group work on the business case and feedback.

It is possible to adjust the business cases to the specific business situation of the customer audience assuming sufficient lead-time and cooperation.

The workshop is designed to bring the audience up to speed on key business finance matters without going into the accounting/finance details.

At the end of the workshop it is expected that participants will have a better ability to discuss key aspects of the financial statements and inquire on relevant financial matters with respect to business developments as captured in the financial statements, as well as grasping basic financial ratio analysis and the relevance of these.

Participants will be able to understand/DIY a quick and straight forward profitability analysis of a project in their business, and can understand/discuss basic funding issues for the project.

Participants will develop a better understanding of value based management and develop a consultancy approach to cost improvement, enabling to address business transformation using finance facts as a key tool for change.

The course will be facilitated by Rob van Velden MSc, who had a long international career with Shell in Finance, with, in the last 15 years Executive CFO and Board roles for Shell Joint Ventures in Nigeria, Russia and Brunei. At the moment Rob van Velden is Non Executive Director for a Company in Brunei and associated with the Erasmus University Rotterdam (EUR) in The Netherlands where he delivers guest lectures/business cases on Advanced Corporate Financing in the EUR MSc program.
