Sarah Indrelid Hannah

Sarah has worked in the oil industry for more than 30 years, with Shell and as an independent consultant. She was a member of the Shell Global Geology Leadership team, and has worked in Production, Research, Exploration, and Acquisition/Divestment, in the Netherlands, UK, Oman, New Zealand, USA and Russia. She has been involved in planning and operations for over a hundred wells, has built, updated or assured numerous reservoir models, and has led several multi-disciplinary projects to implement offshore drilling campaigns.

Sarah believes it is critical to focus on the work which will deliver the desired outcome. It is important to strike the balance between representing the geological understanding and uncertainties  without spending more money, or doing more work, than necessary.

She is also a strong advocate for subsurface safety, which she has shown through assurance of well planning and operations, leading implementation of subsurface safety standards in two companies, developing a forward-looking subsurface safety dashboard and lessons-learned systems, being an Emergency Management Team member, and developing staff from discipline performers to assurers by designing a program to strengthen integrated thinking.

Her teaching experience includes delivering courses at the Shell training centre and in individual Shell companies, coaching and mentoring subsurface staff, as well as coaching a Toastmasters Club and being a BSAC diving instructor. She studied Natural Science at Queens’ College, Cambrige (UK) and has a PhD from Oxford University (UK) and an MBA from the University of Phoenix (USA).
