Thorsten Viertel is an accomplished energy professional with 27+ years of technical, commercial, and managerial experience at Shell across Europe, the US, and the Middle East. He holds advanced degrees in engineering and economics from IFP School (France), Colorado School of Mines (USA), and Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (Germany).
A recognized expert in Reservoir Engineering, Well, Reservoir & Facilities Management (WRFM), and Business Development, he has led, advised, and coached multidisciplinary teams worldwide. As Shell’s Principal Technical Expert and Excellence Manager for WRFM, he led the advancement of integrated approaches to optimize production. His expertise spans reserves and resource assessment, project evaluation, and strategic planning across conventional and unconventional oil and gas, as well as CCS.
Now an independent consultant, Thorsten advises organizations and drives impactful solutions. Passionate about coaching and collaboration, he strives to balance technical excellence with pragmatic decision-making to create lasting value.
