Business context
Geophysics provides the tools with which we can "look" into the subsurface. It is a key enabler of many E&P activities and decisions. This course is designed to provide an introduction to geophysics as it is applied for exploration and development purposes in the industry. It provides an understanding in the fundamentals of potential field methods and reflection seismology, with strong emphasis on the latter. Modern seismic acquisition and processing techniques will be discussed and interpretation will be taught using a large number of examples and hands-on paper interpretation.
Who should attend
Geologists, geophysicists, and petroleum engineers, involved in exploration and development of oil and gas fields.
Course content
Learning, methods and tools
At the end of the course, participants will have a good understanding of the fundamental concepts in geophysical exploration. With that foundation they will be able to better grasp the potential of seismic data in terms of interpretation value and liaise and collaborate with experts in the fields of seismic acquisition, processing and interpretation. Other benefits include:
The course uses a mixture of lectures and practical exercises. The course can be customised to meet specific needs of participants. A 3 day version "Geophysics for other disciplines" can also be provided.
